Boston Foreign Commerce Club Supports End Hunger New England Outreach Program:

The Boston Foreign Commerce Clubs is pleased to announce our latest donation to a tremendous local charity.

Thanks to the generous support of industry stakeholders and our successful Holiday Calendar raffle, we were able to donate $5,000 to the End Hunger New England Outreach Program (https://www.endhungerne.org), which produces prepackaged meals for homeless shelters, food pantries and other programs. This incredible non-profit organization brings awareness too, and support for, the staggering hunger pandemic that people are facing in our own backyard.

The mission of the organization is "to feed more hungry New Englanders every year". Last year alone, the group provided nutritious food to feed four million people! They also organize food packaging events at their warehouse in Pembroke, MA which are open to volunteers. Their goal is to package 77,000 meals a week, 334,000 a month, 4 million every year!

End Hunger New England is part of The Outreach Program (https://outreachprogram.org/), a non-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation that organizes food packaging events around the country. With more than 675 million meals packaged to date, the organization’s mission is to provide safe water, food, medical care, and education to those in need, at home and abroad.

The End Hunger NE Outreach Program is also hoping to produce 1 million meals to send to Ukrainian refugees. FCC members BOC Int’l, Boston Freight Terminals and Ravan Transport have graciously offered their services to help arrange logistics and transportation for the 3 containers it will take to ship the meals.

There is an ongoing need for and ways to contribute and/or volunteer. There are also opportunities for individuals and groups to promote the program through Instagram, Facebook, and other social media outlets.

To volunteer or to request food delivery for a local food pantry, shelter, or other organization, or to make a donation, visit https://www.endhungerne.org or call (857) 939-3459.

Off Their Plate

In early May, the Boston Foreign Commerce Club continued our support of front-line workers with another contribution. Based upon feedback from members on our board, we made contact with an organization called Off Their Plate (www.offtheirplate.org) whose purpose is to feed healthcare workers while supporting partner restaurants with badly needed business.

This organization provides many benefits:
  1. Meals for worthy and strongly committed workers in hospitals with the convenience of delivery where they do their jobs.
  2. Assists in preserving jobs within an adversely affected industry sector in our local Boston community- our local restaurants
  3. Acts as a revenue stream to another industry sector also hurt by the pandemic these past few months- delivery service companies.
  4. Provides meals to other people experiencing hunger in our communities.
Since the organization, which was created by a Harvard University medical student (Natalie Guo), is fully powered by volunteers, 100% of the dollars raised are directed to our local communities. We were able to earmark our entire contribution to benefit the local Boston area.

Before we made our contribution, we asked for (and had) interaction with key people within their organization. We were very impressed with their passion and commitment to their mission. The Boston Foreign Commerce Club is proud to contribute to such a worthy cause, and we encourage our supporters to visit their website and consider contributions of your own to this noteworthy organization.

To Boston Foreign Commerce Club Members & Supporters

Our organization is hoping that all of you are in good health and adjusting to this unprecedented COVID-19 situation. While we all have been impacted by this situation, this message is focused on those who have been diagnosed with the coronavirus, and the real heroes in our society - members of our community who provide direct medical care and assistance to those people who came down with this virus.

Many people stricken with the coronavirus have been forced to abruptly travel to hospitals and medical facilities in this area. Most needed to stay for treatment for an extended period of time. While the Boston area has a well-earned reputation of having a large number of quality hospitals and medical centers in the area, the proliferation of coronavirus patients has created huge challenges for those who work in those facilities. In many facilities, there has not been enough available beds, PPEs, nor 8 hour shifts to effectively handle this crisis situation [MORE].
